Gingerbread Galore (and a giveaway)

Hello friends! We are busy in the midst of conferences today and tomorrow, but we wanted to pop in with a quick hello! We know there is a great linky party going on over at What the Teacher Wants, but it will have to wait until tomorrow. We wanted to quickly share our newest unit at TpT with you. Are you looking for some fun Gingerbread activities to do with your firsties? Then this will be perfect for you! This is our newest baby Gingerbread Galore.

She's packed full of all sorts of fun inspired by 3 Gingerbread books. Head on over to our store, and have a little peek! For now, here's a quick preview.

Are you a follower? Comment on our post with your favorite gingerbread activity and we will give away our unit to a lucky winner. But hurry, we'll chose a winner at the end of conferences tomorrow night. Send good thoughts our way... 17 hours left. :)

Didn't Scrappin' Doodles do a fantastic job on this set? We've emailed them a few times lately asking for a clipart set, and they have worked magic! (Pinktastic anyone?)

  1. Your unit looks fantastic! We have fun with gingerbread, too. One of my favorite activities is the "Which Part of the Gingerbread Man Did You Bite?" We eat, we graph, we discuss. Such fun!

  3. Good Luck on your conferences!!!

Your unit looks great!! One of my favorite gingerbread stories to read is Gingerbread Baby. It has such beautiful pictures! I have always wanted to do a gingerbread glyph and I think I may try to do that this year.

  4. I always make a big gingerbread man and bring to school, but somehow he always disappears and runs away. We go looking through the school trying to find him and when we do, we get to eat him :).

  7. I love gingerbread! I have many gingerbread books and I like to use them to compare and contrast. There are so many different variations of the story. It's the perfect time to break out the venn diagrams!

  9. Hi!! I do a big unit and end it with making hats with little GBMen on them and we bake GB men and they run away! We find a note with a clue on it that leads to another and another through the school! The kids love it! They eventually end up back in our room which is the best place to be, we then take one bite and graph which part we ate first, so much fun! All week long I read many many different versions to compare and contrast!

    Thanks for listening!

  12. GREAT ITEMS! My favorite Gingerbread activity is where we go on a scavenger hunt. After reading the story, I tell them there is a gingerbread baking in our school cafeteria for them. When we get there, the cook tells us he's gone, but left a note. We go several different places throughout the school, and then end up finding gingerbread cookies back in the class.

  13. When our gingerbread man runs away, we receive postcards from across the world and track his travels on our map. When he returns, he always brings the children some small presents. One time I had a student say "I know that these are from the gingerbread man because it says made in China and we got a postcard from China." Got to love their innocence and belief in magic. So fun!

  15. I love to have the kiddos disguise their gingerbread men and then we complete a writing activity that gives lots of clues to help you figure out which gingerbread is theirs. We work on using adjectives in our sentences to make them more detailed. Then we read them to one another and try to figure them all out! It's always lots of fun!

Love your fun activities too! Fingers crossed!!!!

  17. I love all your gingerbread activities! Good luck at your conferences! I love to read all the gingerbread stories and at the end of the unit have the students graph their favorite one. It is always so fun to see what each class loves the most: the past few years have been The Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Cowboy, and The Gingerbread Baby as favorites! The gingerbread stories are such a fun way to teach retelling and sequencing events too! I could just go on and on but I won't because you've already created wonderful ideas!

  21. I love to make gingerbread play dough with my kiddos! Our room smells so yummy! The students then do all sorts of things with it. Measuring, spelling, etc.

  23. This unit looks like a lot of fun (I hope I can win it!!!!!!) Especially because we have the kids the ENTIRE week before Christmas- allll the way until Friday! I found on someone's blog a freebie that was a gingerbread man science experiment- I love that we could connect science into a holiday thematic unit. By the way- we made our hand print turkeys on Friday- oh my they came out so cute!

  26. I am new to teaching first grade, so I haven't done too many gingerbread activities. Last year we baked gingerbread men and women and they ran away on us! They led us all over the school. The students really believed that they ran away and it was soooo much fun!

  27. I love the writing activities! Sequencing stories and comparing similar stories can be hard for our firsties, but putting a fun gingerbread man twist will make this fun and exciting!

  28. I love your Gingerbread man unit! My favorite activity is to give the kids a gingerbread man cookie and they can take one bite of it. Then we graph the results of what part we bite off first. The kids have so much fun with this activity!

  33. Your unit looks fantastic!

I collect gingerbread items. Time permitting, I plan to send a stuffed gingerbread baby home with the students, in turn. He will, of course, have his book with him! I just need a clever "package" to hold him!

We start our gingerbread unit next week!
Thank you! Our gingerbread unit begins next week!

  37. I bake gingerbread and have parents come and help me put the houses together the night before we decorate them in class. Then I invite all the parents to come with a bag of candy to share, and help their child decorate their gingerbread house. It's a big hit every year and I usually have a few dad's take off work to be there. ;)
